Asthma is a type of lung disease that affects breathing. It can be life-threatening. Asthma causes breathing problems that often are caused by some trigger in the environment. Large amounts of exercise, colds, allergies, cigarette smoke, and dust or mold in the air can cause an asthma attack to begin. Asthma can be treated by using an asthma inhaler that contains medication. It can also be controlled by avoiding the triggers that lead to an attack.

Sickle cell anemia is an inherited disease. It causes some red blood cells to be misshaped. The disease affects more African Americans than other groups of people. It can cause weakness and heart problems. Another inherited disease is hemophilia. Hemophilia is a disease that affects the way the blood cells clot. A person with hemophilia maybe in danger if he or she gets a cut or a bruise. This person’s blood does not clot, and he or she can bleed too much.
