Directions: ANSWER USING COMPLETE SENTENCES! Use the information you have been given to answer questions about: The Excretory System

*To improve your MATH SKILLS spend at least 20 minutes practicing them using IXL.COM. (REMEMBER TO ENTER YOUR USER NAME AND PASSWORD WHEN LOGGING ON! THAT WILL BE PROOF THAT YOU DID IT!)

Level#1

The body needs to get rid of waste in order to stay healthy. The excretory system removes wastes from the body. Lungs, kidneys, intestines, and skin are each parts of this system.

1. What does the body need to do to stay healthy?

2. What body system is responsible for removing wastes from the body?

3. What organs are involved in the excretory system?

Level#2

Wastes are produced as the body carries out life functions. The body needs to get rid of waste in order to stay healthy. The excretory system removes wastes from the body. Lungs, kidneys, intestines, and skin are each parts of this system. The lungs get rid of carbon dioxide and water. As you breathe out, you are releasing these waste products into the air.

1. What does the body produce as a result of carrying out life functions?

2. What does the body need to do to stay healthy?

3. What system is responsible for removing wastes from the body?

Level#3

Wastes are produced as the body carries out life functions. The body needs to get rid of waste in order to stay healthy. The excretory system removes wastes from the body. Lungs, kidneys, intestines, and skin are each parts of this system. The lungs get rid of carbon dioxide and water. As you breathe out, you are releasing these waste products into the air. During digestion, material that cannot be digested is moved to the large intestine. In the large intestine, water is removed from the material and it becomes solid. the solid waste moves into the rectum. From there, the waste leaves the body through the anus.

1. Explain what the body produces as it carries out life functions, what the body must do with the wastes it produces, and what body system is responsible for removing the wastes that the body produces.

2. Explain the lung's role in excretion and how it accomplishes this role.

3. Explain what happens to material that cannot be digested, what happens in the large intestine, and what happens to the solid that moves into the rectum.
