The small intestine has many tiny blood vessels that allow the nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream to feed the body. This happens because the lining of the small intestine has many folds and tiny finger-shaped structures called villi.The villi increase the surface area of the small intestine. This means more nutrients can be absorbed by the body.
